Spring Flood pictures March 2021

Flood pictures March 2021 at the old Hames Marina on Smith Lake

While the water will rise every year with the spring rains, this year it got particularly high, flooding over the pivot points (entry points) on the loading/unloading docks, and the observation deck/stairway.  It did not deter the avid boaters and fishermen who launched their boats anyway to drive out on beautiful Smith Lake while it's a 'little bit' wider than usual!
The water is still rising, and more pictures are to come!

March 26th:

The water just keeps rising!  It is now up over the wooden deck, and over the sidewalk.

March 28th:

March 31st, and it is still rising!  519.51 ft!

Still March 31st, now later in the day,

The water is up to the big rocks, and inches away from the big Oaktree.  The lake has reached the 520, creeping up on the 521 marks.  I understand the Oak tree (left in the picture above) is at the 522 marks.  I was told the water reached this tree in 1966 when the lake first filled up, (much faster than anticipated at the time).  Now the Warrior river is flooding, which reduces the amount that Alabama Power can release.

April 1st, 2021. . . It's reached the 522 mark!

This particular spring flood is causing quite a bit of damage. . .
